In addition to the Zermatt Bike Pass, a new Bike Pass Light is now available for the summer. This entitles holders to unlimited cable car rides on the Zermatt-Sunnegga-Blauherd, Zermatt-Furi-Schwarzsee and Zermatt-Furi-Riffelberg routes. If that’s not enough, the Zermatt Bike Pass enables you to ride up to Schwarzsee and the Rothorn, and up to the Gornergrat – subject to booking and an additional fee at certain times.

When the first of the sun’s rays touches the majestic mountain peaks, bathing the panorama in soft light, there’s no better place to witness it than on the banks of Stellisee lake, where the Matterhorn is reflected in the smooth surface of the water. In July and August, Zermatt Bergbahnen will be offering dawn rides to Blauherd and back. The package includes the journey there and back, plus breakfast in Restaurant Fluhalp. From Blauherd station, it’s a 45-minute hike to Stellisee lake, where you can admire nature’s show and then enjoy a sumptuous breakfast including local specialities in Restaurant Fluhalp.

On Saturday 5 December 2020, the ski facilities in Rothorn and Gornergrat will open, in addition to the cable cars in the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise that are already open. Pistes 6, 7, 11, 19, 29 and 36 will be accessible, expanding the ski area to 62 kilometres of pistes. Due to cantonal COVID-19 measures, restaurants remain closed until 13 December 2020, but six mountain restaurants are offering a takeaway service during this period.

From Saturday 10 October 2020, skiers in the Matterhorn ski paradise will be able to access 25 kilometres of pistes. Weather permitting, the Furggsattel chair lift will start operating, and pistes 71 and 72 will open, in addition to pistes 73, 80, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87 and 88. The connecting piste from the glacier ski area to Trockener Steg will also open.

The whole of Zermatt’s infrastructure is still available to guests this winter – combined with the necessary safety precautions to ensure the health of guests and employees. All the facilities and pistes will be open – and there will even be an additional cable car in operation, the Kumme gondola. Even the Zermatt Unplugged music festival will take place, albeit in a different format that's been adapted to the current situation.

The 10-person Kumme gondola will open on 19 December 2020 and it will be the first gondola in Switzerland that can run without staff. Fifty-six cabins will carry 1,500 people per hour on the 3.2 km route from Tufternkehr via the middle station in Wyss Gufer to the Unterrothorn. The new facility and accompanying artificial snow system will be a fantastic addition to the winter sports facilities in the Unterrothorn area.

In summer 2021, the first visitors will be able to enjoy a multi-dimensional immersion and get up close to this beautiful natural world. The lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic is causing a great deal of uncertainty and reduced sales for almost every industry in Switzerland. Instead of falling into a state of shock, the Zermatt Bergbahnen AG (ZBAG) concentrates on the time “when this is all over”. Despite the difficult starting position, the Board of Directors has decided to make the major investments of around 60 million Swiss francs over the next two years as planned. The additional financing provided by the banks also contributes to this decision. As soon as the weather conditions allow and no further official decisions relating to the coronavirus prevent construction work from taking place, ZBAG will commence the task of building the new Kumme gondola lift and continue work on the Matterhorn glacier ride II 3S cableway project.

Passengers on the Glacier Express have been able to enjoy its new Excellence Class since 2019, with 4,855 experiencing the new product by the end of the summer. This translates as an occupancy rate of 55 percent – a result no one had expected. The pull of the new premium class has been accompanied by an increase in demand for the other two classes, with a complete facelift of both first and second class still to come.

At the Annual General Meeting of 27 September 2019, Zermatt Bergbahnen AG was able to look back on the best financial year in the history of the company. Thanks to a highly successful summer in 2018 and an optimum 2018/19 winter season, the record sales of the previous year increased by a further 9.3% to reach CHF 76 million in the 2018/19 financial year, with EBITDA at CHF 39.6 million (up 14.4% year on year at 52% of sales) and operational cash flow at CHF 35.6 million (46.8% of sales, up 16% on the previous year). Benchmarked against the most important indicators, Zermatt Bergbahnen ranks among the very best performers in the whole sector.

The opening of the world’s highest 3S cableway to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in the autumn of 2018 was just the first stage in the realization of a much more far-reaching vision: the creation of a continuous cableway connection between Zermatt and Italy – the so-called "Alpine Crossing". This crossing will be made possible by the addition of another structurally similar 3S cableway (tri-cable gondola lift) between Testa Grigia and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The first visitors should be able to make the highest crossing of the Alps in summer 2022.

After being closed for two summer seasons due to landslips, at last the Blauherd-Rothorn cable car will open again on schedule for the start of the winter season. All the repairs and construction work to the pillars have been carried out successfully. Safe operation of the cable car is therefore assured winter and summer alike.

The "Ikon Pass" links 41 destinations on five continents. Pass holders have access to all destinations. The catering service of the Glacier Express, Panoramic Gourmet AG, is launching a new culinary concept in the spring of 2019. This consists of various regional delicacies such as: an Alpine platter (Älplerteller) with Salzis (dry cured sausage) and Graubünden mountain cheese, traditional Valais rarebit soaked in white wine, oven-baked Graubünden capuns (chard roulades) with a little cheese on top, or, one of the classics, mince with macaroni and apple sauce. The offer is rounded off with regional wines. The aim is for guests to experience the culinary diversity of the regions they travel through on their plates.

The submission in the summer of 2018 of the project to construct a cableway link via a 3S cableway made by LEITNER ropeways between the stations at Testa Grigia and Matterhorn glacier paradise (Klein Matterhorn) generated intensive discussions between Zermatt Bergbahnen AG (ZBAG) and the complainant, the Swiss Foundation for Landscape Conservation (Stiftung Landschaftsschutz Schweiz, or SL). With both sides offering constructive proposals, an agreement has been reached and work can now start on the realization of an "Alpine Crossing" between Zermatt and Cervinia (Italy).
