The Fuchs bakery in Zermatt is known for its innovative spirit. A new collaboration with the packaging company Pawi now allows customers to design their own packaging for certain products. From orders above 25 pieces, customers can design the packaging for their favourite product online, such as for the bakery’s famous "Matterhörnli" miniature Matterhorn chocolate specialities. The personalised presents will make ideal customer gifts.
In addition, the bakery has revised its range of cakes and now also sells its own drinks. Bäckerei Fuchs has also developed in terms of sustainability: by joining the Swisstainable programme run by Switzerland Tourism, it is contributing to a sustainable future.

In March 2020, the “Lebensraum Zermatt” association collected surplus food from hotels and restaurants and gave it to private individuals in return for a donation. The money raised – CHF 14,500 – was donated to two Valais foundations, Atelier Manus and Emera.

Bäckerei Fuchs, run by owner Philipp Fuchs, is launching a new bread delivery service for guests in holiday apartments. Guests can order bread online to be delivered to their apartment the next day using the postal service. Both one-off orders and weekly subscriptions will be available. The “Bread Post” is a project set up by local bakeries and the Swiss postal service.

The interior furnishings store Destination Home will be relocating at the beginning of July to Haus Annelis at Steinmattstrasse 2. The new store will be completely refurbished and will offer a range of bespoke products. The new concept will include the expansion of the in-house collection, “Destination Home Zermatt”, as well as home living products and accessories. In addition to selling decorative items such as woollen blankets, cushions and textiles, the store will offer a full renovation and interior decorating service including planning, organisation and project management. Furniture, lighting, textiles, kitchen equipment and bedlinen can all be sourced and ordered from Destination Home. The company prioritises the use of local partners, local production and handmade items.

On 12 December 2019, a SPAR Express was opened at Schluhmattstrasse 1 in Zermatt where the former food store PAM used to be. This is the first store in Valais for the East Swiss SPAR Group and will have extended opening hours – every day from 07:00–20:00 hrs. Locals and holidaymakers will find everything for their daily food needs over the 100 square metres..

At the end of November 2019, ‘Zermatt Selection’ will open its doors. The shop at Bahnhofstrasse 7b will be run by Zermatt artist Heinz Julen and will also include an exhibition that can be accessed even when the shop is closed. Works of art will be displayed behind glass and can also be seen at the ‘Kunsträume Zermatt’ art gallery, helping the artists to display their work in prominent locations. The main exhibition is still open in the Vernissage. In the Bahnhofstrasse exhibition, products will include chairs and tables from Heinz Julen Design, accessories from Restaurant Chez Vrony and exhibition pieces from other artists. The shop will be open all day, 365 days a year, and will sell pictures, lamps and clothing items designed by Heinz Julen. His aim is to provide high-quality products with a link to Zermatt – beautiful souvenirs with a genuine Zermatt history. The building will also be a cultural meeting point. The shop will replace the current Heinz Julen shop on Hofmattstrasse.

In October 2019, "Atelier-Eigenwerk" will open in Täsch. Owner Fränzi Tscherrig will run painting courses for children and adults, where you can learn about the creative techniques behind abstract painting. There will be day and weekly courses, private lessons can be booked in advance and there will also be an open painting workshop.

In December 2019, ‘Puralpina’ will open a new store on Kirchplatz in Zermatt – on Metzggasse 2 where the ‘Wilde Hilde’ takeaway used to be. The company makes natural products in Switzerland containing no preservatives, fragrances or colourants. One of their bestsellers is their handmade Marmot Oil Herbal Cream for use on backs, muscles and joints. The range includes Alpine beauty products for hands, feet and lips and high-quality local and Swiss accessories.

A good range from sustainable Swiss label Nikin is now available from Olmo Zermatt. The collection offers T-shirts, thermos flasks, pullovers, hats and socks. The brand is characterised by sustainable and fair fashions, with a tree being planted for every product sold. There are also new products in the collection from Freitag. The new collection, also available from Olmo, combines lorry tarpaulins with recycled PET materials.
