This varied walk leading past the hamlet of Wildi reveals measures local people have taken to protect themselves from nature, which can often show her wilder side.
Wildi – the name is highly suggestive. A protective wall dating from the 19th century shelters the hamlet of Wildi from flooding. At Hohtschugga there’s a wooden cross 9 metres high, erected in 1934 by the young people of Randa. The little wayside shrine dedicated to St Anthony was built long ago, to invoke the saint’s protection whenever nature would run wild. The flower-filled alpine meadows and the protective forest attract roe deer at twilight.
