Zermatt receives five Michelin stars for 2019

06/02/2019

The Michelin Guide to Switzerland 2019 makes it official - Zermatt remains the Swiss capital of gourmet cuisine. The Matterhorn village retains its current three stars and adds two more.

Two Zermatt restaurants have received a Michelin star for the first time - the Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni and The Omnia. Restaurant critics have heaped praise on both restaurants. Reviewing the Omnia, they said: "Soul food, gourmet menu, vegetarian menu... This is a place rich in finesse and precision, offering food of exceptional quality. The incredibly chic, geometric interior, with its large tables and beautiful granite surfaces, is reflection of its stylish, vivid cuisine." Enjoying an apéritif in front of the fire is particularly recommended.

The Michelin reviewers also had fulsome praise for the Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni in the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. "You feel a real connection to the region here, with a clear focus on local ingredients. Fresh ideas, and the dishes themselves, are presented without any unnecessary flourishes. The highly elegant, stylish interior reflects the luxury of the establishment itself."

The After Seven restaurant in the Hotel Backstage Vernissage and the Ristorante Capri in the Hotel Mont Cervin Palace also retained their stars. The After Seven restaurant in the Hotel Backstage Vernissage helps Zermatt to qualify as a "place with a two-star restaurant." Only 20 establishments in Switzerland bear this description. According to the Michelin Guide to Switzerland 2019, the After Seven is one of the 23 best restaurants in Switzerland.
