Kino Vernissage

The Vernissage cinema – the cult cinema for over 30 years! The early evening programme includes children's films and on Thursdays and Friday the documentaries by August Julen from Zermatt "Menschen am Matterhorn" and "Whymper's Weg aufs Matterhorn". From 8:30 pm, international blockbusters thrill on the big screen.

In the Vernissage cinema you are not in an ordinary cinema – the Vernissage cinema combines a cinema, stage and club in one. In addition to emotional screen hits, it offers a home for the international music and art scene and is considered the cradle of the renowned music festival Zermatt Unplugged. This extraordinary venue in the Backstage Hotel was conceived by Zermatt artist and hotelier Heinz Julen and realised in 1991. Countless details draw you in here, such as the spectacular chandeliers that have to give way from the ceiling of the screen by means of chain hoists before every cinema performance, while they dance with the guests in the evening. The cinema seating is also different from the usual one in a city cinema.
