It was a harsh time for hotels and restaurants in Zermatt when they suddenly had to close their doors in the middle of March. Many of them had full food stores. To ensure that the food didn't end up being thrown away, the “Lebensraum Zermatt” association joined forces with the local council in Zermatt and the “Gib und NimM” group and set up a pop-up store in the former Sunstore pharmacy building opposite Migros Zermatt.

Rescued food

Companies handed over surplus food and private individuals were able to purchase it between 15 and 18 March 2020 for a donation to a good cause. The campaign saved 2,000 crates of food and raised CHF 14,500.

Donations to Valais foundations

The money raised was given to the two Valais foundations Atelier Manus and Emera, who further professional and social participation for people with disabilities. Both organizations received CHF 7,250. This ensured that the money remained in the region and made a strong statement – These times of COVID-19 call for solidarity.
