VILLA Vrony: iconic mountain eatery comes to Lucerne as a pop-up restaurant

24/10/2023

Chez Vrony has long been an integral part of the top gastronomic scene in Zermatt. Despite its fame, Vrony and Max Cotting-Julen are always up for the challenge of a new project. The pop-up restaurant VILLA Vrony on Lake Lucerne is their latest stroke of genius, involving a collaboration between Chez Vrony and the VILLA Schweizerhof in Lucerne.

What do you get when you mix two of Switzerland's most famous tourist destinations?
A phenomenal collaboration featuring the best of the best that Switzerland has to offer in terms of nature, culture and culinary delights.

The city. The lake. The Matterhorn.

Chez Vrony's pop-up restaurant is a tribute to the slogan of the popular tourist destination of Lucerne: “The city. The lake. The mountains.” It brings a piece of the mountain of all mountains to Lucerne by capturing the spirit of the Matterhorn – the most photographed mountain in the world. From 9 November 2023 to 4 February 2024, the VILLA Schweizerhof on Lake Lucerne will present the unusual and uniquely regional creations of Alain Kuster, head chef of Chez Vrony in Zermatt.

A little piece of Valais chiselled into the heart of  Central Switzerland

Run by the 5-star Hotel Schweizerhof Lucerne, the classic elegance of the VILLA is transformed into an alpine chalet. White-linen tables give way to rustic alpine chic and art by Heinz Julen from Zermatt. Anyone who has visited and enjoyed the gourmet gem Chez Vrony in Findeln, above Zermatt, will feel right at home in the VILLA Vrony. Of course, alpine chic interiors and a photo montage of the Matterhorn are not enough to transport guests from Lake Lucerne to the Valais on their own. It’s a well-known fact that nothing beats the taste of a region. Guests will soon enjoy the legendary "Vrony Burger" or the mountain goat cheese ravioli, seasoned with herbs from the VILLA Schweizerhof's own herb garden.

A fun collaboration

The project was initiated by Roman Omlin, hotel director of the Schweizerhof Lucerne. As a former hotel director in Zermatt, he still keeps in touch with the Matterhorn village. And he is delighted to bring a piece of Zermatt closer to Lucerne for three months. Host Vrony Cotting-Julen, named "Host of the Year 2022" by Gault Millau, is particularly looking forward to welcoming loyal Lucerne regulars in a different setting.

The pop-up will open on Thursday, 9 November 2023 at an opening event with Vrony and Max Cotting-Julen.
