The Karl Wild ranking in the SonntagsZeitung picks out 75 hotels. In the 5-star category, the Riffelalp Resort in Zermatt is ranked 10th. As in the previous year, The Omnia Mountain Lodge takes 15th place and the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof achieves 17th place in the hotel rating. In addition, the Mont Cervin Palace in Zermatt appears in the list for the first time, ranked 20th.
The SonntagsZeitung also recognises the 25 best holiday hotels with four stars. This list includes the Backstage Hotel and the Schweizerhof, which are ranked seventh and ninth. Placed 17th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd are the Unique Hotel Post, Schlosshotel and now also Le Mirabeau Hotel & Spa and the Beausite.
Behind the ratings for the best winter hotels is the publicist, hotel and restaurant tester Karl Wild. The SonntagsZeitung reported that he visited all the hotels, together with experts from the hotel and tourism industry as well as frequent travellers. Evaluation criteria included value for money, hospitality, investment activity, guest ratings, ratings of important hotel and restaurant guides and quality controls of leading hotel associations. To ensure a level playing field, only hotels with at least twelve bedrooms and their own restaurant were included.
