Vote for the New7Wonders of Nature: save the Matterhorn!
Of course the Matterhorn is not in danger. But it has slipped behind in the list of the 28 remaining candidates in the vote for the New7Wonders of Nature. Vote to save the honour of the Matterhorn or “Hore”, to give the mountain its local name!
As one of the 28 finalists for the New7Wonders of Nature, the Matterhorn is up against such contenders as Vesuvius (Italy), the Cliffs of Moher (Ireland), the Dead Sea and the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). The website of the global poll shows that the Matterhorn still needs a huge amount of support! See link below to cast your vote. Voting ends on 11 November 2011.
Global vote The international Internet and telephone vote has been running since 2000 and is the largest-ever poll in which anyone and everyone can take part. In 2007, after 7 years, it was announced that 100 million votes had been cast. The objectives of the campaign are set out in a charter.
The 7 Wonders of the Ancient World The authentic Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were defined in 200 BC as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Mausoleum of King Mausolos II, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Pyramids of Giza, the Temple of Artemis and the Statue of Zeus at Olympia. The Pyramids of Giza are the only ones still in existence.
