Dynamic Zermatt: a host of new experiences also this summer

Zermatt, the mountain village at the foot of the Matterhorn, has again come up with a host of new ideas for this summer. Hotels, lifts and cable cars, restaurants and other providers have been reinvesting and are ready to welcome their guests. You'll be spoilt for choice!

Information on hotel restaurants can be found under "Restaurants".

Hotels, Holiday Apartments, Chalets, Youth Hostel
The hotel Alex has recently installed a new jacuzzi in its swimming pool. The hotel Antika has been upgraded to a three-star hotel. From 15th August, the hotel Bellerive will be radiant in its new splendour thanks to extensive renovation work. Look out for the magnificent new balconies. And there's a lot more inside: 10 extended Deluxe south-facing bedrooms, 12 Superior north-facing bedrooms now with balcony and suites. The hotel Bellavista will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is now successfully managed by the third generation. The hotel Cervo and the hotel Backstage are jointly offering the "Hunter meets Rockstar" package, with overnight accommodation in these hotels and with extra offers, like cinema trips and visits to mountain restaurants. The Domhütte above Randa is closed this summer. The guardian couple will reopen the mountain hut in June 2013. Many holiday apartments have been renovated and lovingly furnished. One such example is the apartment in the Haus Castania B, which now has a new kitchen, carpets and furniture. The Youth Hostel heads into the summer season under new management: Christian Keel and Ilja Ronsdorf. The Chalet Pico, the centuries-old, luxuriously restored Valais-style barn which was the house of the former mountain guide Othmar Kronig, can now be booked by holidaymakers. The hotel Testa Grigia now offers guests free W-Lan access in all rooms and also has more spacious new bedrooms. The 5-star "Chalet Zermatt Peak" offers guests a complete service with catering alongside a whole range of summer sports to try.

Spas & Wellness
The spa and wellness facilities in the hotel Coeur des Alpes are now open to external guests. Many more hotels which have open spas for externals see here. The hotel Mirabeau offers treatments for pregnant women.

"La Calèche" is the completely redesigned restaurant in the hotel Holiday and proudly exudes the air of an old Alpine 'Stübli.' It is also open to external guests from Wednesday to Saturday from 18.45. The emphasis is on hospitality in the Gitz-Gädi on Furi (hotel Silvana): guests with a bill of more than CHF 30 will have the cost of the cable car to Furi reimbursed. The Pizzeria Molino plays host to the Pizza World Champion on 17 July 2012 from 12.00 - 15.00 and from 19.00 - 21.30. In the 5-star hotel The Omnia, Restaurant Manager Martin Henning, a qualified sommelier, is on hand to help in-house and external guests with their wine selection and choice of dishes.

Culinary Experiences
Zermatt now has a new delicatessen. Next to Migros, the new "Matterhorn Fleisch" butcher's shop sells selected meat and cheese from the region over the counter, with fresh fish on a Thursday and Friday. It also sells the following products produced in-house: Valais dried meat, homemade sausage, dry cured ham and dry cured bacon. Cream cheese and hard cheese, alongside other specialist cheeses, are available from the Zermatt Horu-Käserei cheese dairy in the same store along with Valais wines, spirits and jams. Guests can taste and buy specialist food products from Switzerland and the Valais region from gastronomic chalet-style stalls situated in the Bahnhofstrasse in Zermatt at the Swiss Food Festival (10 - 12.8.2012). Eringer beef and other Valais delicacies will be cooked on Saturday on the Kirchplatz.

Indian dishes are now being served on GlacierExpress trains from St. Moritz/Chur to Zermatt. Customers who spend CHF 100 at the Coop will receive discounted tickets for the GlacierExpress and for the Gornergrat Bahn railway. The Matterhorn Gotthard railway also offers an Adventure Card (Erlebnis Card). Visitors can get information on the 45-minute gondola and cable car return trip between Zermatt and the Matterhorn glacier paradise (3,880 m) thanks to a new audio system, which activates information about the mountains and offers at the peak, lifts and cable cars, through headphones at 21 stations along the route. This information is available in the main European languages, as well as Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Russian.
