This winter, Zermatt and the Matterhorn will decorate Swiss Postal Service stamps. The two-franc stamp featuring two “Gädini” in a snowy landscape set against the Matterhorn will be valid as of 14 November 2013.
“Gädini” are typical larch-wood stables found in Upper Valais. They are framed by a snowy landscape with the Matterhorn towering majestically in the background. The special edition entitled “Typical Swiss countryside – the Matter Valley” will be available to philatelists as of 7 November 2013. While normal post office counters will not sell the special stamps, they can be ordered by phone or online or at the Postal Service’s philatelic sales points in Lausanne and Bern.
Between 7 November 2013 and 31 December 2014, the stamp will be sold until stocks run out. The photo on which the design is based was taken by Leander Wenger who has been providing Zermatt Tourism with high-quality landscape pictures for many years.
The 04/2013 issue of the Postal Service’s “Focus on stamps” publication presents the beautiful landscapes of the Matter Valley and includes several photos taken by Leander Wenger.
