Hiking trail Dossen - Riffelberg: Easy new shortcut

The new hiking trail section at the Dossen Glacier Garden is an attractive and scenic link between Dossen and Riffelberg. A hiking trail that is also suitable for families.

Hiking suggestion: Zermatt – Gornerschlucht gorge (Admission CHF 4.50) – Furi (various mountain restaurants). At Furi, change to the far right-hand side (seen from the valley) of the Gornera and AFTER the Furi aerial cableway station, walk to the hanging bridge (90m high, 100m long). After the hanging bridge you are on the left-hand side (seen from below) of the Gornera and you reach the playground with barbecue grill – an ideal spot to rest in the shade of larch trees before marvelling at the glacier potholes in the Glacier Garden.

You then leave the Glacier Garden to continue your hike. At the gravelled area, look out for the signpost (Riffelalp, Riffelberg) and turn left towards the Gorner Glacier (not yet visible).

Steps and safety ropes
Here begins the new section of trail that was built in the rock and scree with wooden steps and safety ropes at the beginning of August 2012. It’s steep but safe and most definitely attractive. What’s required: sure-footedness, a bit of a head for heights and holding children by the hand.

A superb hike, which leads you to a miraculous Alpine world of rock protrusions polished by former glaciers and ancient forests dominated by larch trees. Duration of the hike: approx. 4 hours depending on physical fitness. Height difference: almost 1000 metres.

From Riffelalp by tram (CHF 2.50) to the Riffelalp station of the Gornergratbahn.
