World Championship title and Team Silver for Martin Anthamatten

Zermatter Martin Anthamatten (27) brought home two medals from the World Championships held in Claut, Italy at the end of February 2011: gold in the sprint and silver in the relay. Congratulations!

“I’m very satisfied with these two medals,” said Martin Anthamatten, summing up his performance. He won the extremely tough sprint race by just 17-hundredths of a second after an incredible effort to catch up. A outstanding achievement! The Ski Mountaineering World Champion also took silver in the relay with his team colleagues Marcel Mari, Yannick Ecoeur and Marcel Theux. After the demanding sprint discipline, he decided to forgo the strenuous vertical race in order to be fully fit for the relay event. The World Championship was a great challenge for the Zermatt athlete as he had to compete in four races over four days.

The most stamina-testing of all races in ski mountaineering takes place in Perra Menta (France) from 17- 20 March 2011. Athletes have to master 4 stages and 10,000 metres height difference in 4 days. Fingers crossed for Martin Anthamatten!
