A comfortable way of travelling to the top of the Matterhorn – that was the idea behind a project conceived at the end of the 19th century. Heritage conservationists, however, saw to it that the project never left the drawing board. In his book “Visionäre Bahnprojekte” (Visionary railway projects), Heinz Schild describes railway projects conceived in the turbulent times at the turn of the last century.
On its seventh anniversary, the Zermatt Unplugged Festival will take place on a brand new stage at the Matterhorn glacier paradise ski area. From 8 to 12 April 2014, Ronnie Scott's All Stars, the house band of Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, will bring groovy sounds to the Gandegghütte at an altitude of 3,030 metres above sea level.
Guests can now also book one-day ski testing events. This offer is available from 25 October 2013 to 15 November 2013. The latest ski models by 13 well-known manufacturers can now also be tested at a one-day event in the highest ski region in Europe.

Zermatt’s mountain restaurants are in a class of their own and enjoy world renown. “Findlerhof” and “Chez Vrony” are among the excellent mountain restaurants, and their culinary specialities will be presented to passengers aboard Swiss flights in winter 2013/2014.
This winter, Zermatt and the Matterhorn will decorate Swiss Postal Service stamps. The two-franc stamp featuring two “Gädini” in a snowy landscape set against the Matterhorn will be valid as of 14 November 2013.
Insiders have known for a long term that Zermatt is Switzerland‘s big cyclists’ paradise. Now the “Swiss Epic”, the biggest bike race, is coming to the canton of Valais for the first time and also to Zermatt. Registration for participants starts on 13th October 2013, but be warned, the number of participants is limited.
According to the 2014 edition of the GaultMillau restaurant guide, Zermatt excels in the culinary department. This year 21 restaurants have made it into the guide – one more than in 2013. All in all, Zermatt’s village and mountain restaurants were awarded an impressive 293 points.
