Matterhorn Ultraks Trail: Lower registration fee only until end of June
On 24 August 2013, Zermatt will host the first ever Matterhorn Ultraks Trail. Over 1,000 contestants are expected to compete in what is the first mountain race of its kind. Until 30 of June, contestants may take advantage of the reduced registration fee. Volunteer helpers will have the opportunity to experience the race at close hand.
The trail event consists of 16, 30 and 46 kilometre courses involving elevation gains/ losses of 1,100, 2,000 and 3,600 m respectively. Younger contestants may test their strength and skills on courses specially prepared for them. All three courses traverse the hills and mountains around Zermatt. Spectators may either cheer on the athletes alongside the trails or watch the races on the giant screen which will be set up in the village. The Matterhorn Ultraks Trail on 24 August will be the first of its kind and is set to become a regular annual event. Don’t forget, the reduced registration fee offer runs out on 30 June 2013.
Skyrunners World Series
Courtesy of the International Skyrunning Federation, the 46 kilometre Matterhorn Ultraks Trail is now listed in the Sky Race 2013 category of the Skyrunners World Series. The Skyrunners World Series consists of five international endurance races held in the mountains of Spain, France, Italy, the USA and Zermatt. Featuring the longest course and the highest elevation gains and losses by a long shot, the Zermatt 46k race looks set to be the biggest challenge for the athletes.
If you’re willing and able and over 18, why not join the team and get involved? Though there won’t be a pay, lots of fun is to be had. Free accommodation will be provided at Zermatt’s civil defence shelter. The various tasks include preparing the trail, helping with the allotment of race numbers and manning control posts at the event. Further information is available at: email@example.com
