Meet a goat and be a goatherd for a day

Description

Would you like to see what it's like being a goatherd, working up close with Valais Blackneck goats? You have the opportunity in Zermatt to take part in the daily “Geissenkehr” parade and walk the whole way with more than 50 Blackneck goats. You'll get to know the animals and their goatherds and find out how they spend the summer in Zermatt.

The package includes:

  • Glimpse behind the scenes at the goats’ stall and at the Geissenkehr along Bahnhofstrasse
  • Photo stop for the perfect photo with the goats on the meadow
  • Lunch from Bäckerei Fuchs
  • Small goat souvenir

Programme:
Meet at 08:30 hrs in the goats’ stall. This is in Zermatt village (directions will be provided with the booking confirmation). Here you will learn how the goatherds prepare the goats for the parade. It’s then time to set off. At 09:00 hrs, the herd starts their journey down Bahnhofstrasse. More than 50 Blackneck goats are guided by around four goatherds to the end of the village. Once they’ve arrived at the meadow (around 10:00 hrs), there is the chance to take photos of and with these amazing animals. Equipped with lunch and a small goat souvenir, you can now head out on your own hike. We recommend exploring the surrounding area (e.g. the trail to Zmutt or the trails in Edelweiss / Trift).

The package can be booked between 29 June to bis 11 August 2024, with six places available per day.
