Zermatt Community Library

The library is in the centre of Zermatt. Locals and visitors can borrow books and media for free.

There are a total of 5,500 titles in the library for adults, young people and children, and the range is being constantly updated. Fiction and non-fiction is available in German, English, French, Italian and Portuguese. There is no charge for borrowing books.

There is a whole room dedicated to alpinism. This is managed and supported by the Swiss Alpine Club Zermatt (SAC).

There is also a computer workstation and free Wi-Fi. Books can be returned outside opening hours using the returns box.

Interesting facts

The library building dates back to 1730. The cosy little rooms in this protected building used to be accommodation for priests. It has been a library since 1991.

Book tree

The library manages a book tree in the rectory garden, and everyone is welcome to help themselves to books in German, French and English. The books do not need to be returned.
