Zermatt: Best Ski Resort in the Alps, 2014


The Matterhorn Ski paradise resort received the covated Best Ski Resort award at a ceremony held in Zurich on 6 November 2014. An independent survey of skiing areas shows top marks in 8 of the 21 criteria of satisfaction of the involved responses, enough to earn it overall victory.

At the prize-giving ceremony for the Best Ski Resort award, the Zermatt skiing area won the title of “Best Ski Resort in the Alps, 2014”. “The enthusiasm for our ski resort shown by visitors is the nicest compliment and a vindication of our daily efforts,” commented Sandra Stockinger, Marketing and Sales Manager of Zermatt Bergbahnen AG.

“Best Ski Resort” is the biggest independent visitor satisfaction survey for Alpine resorts; it is conducted every two years. Between December 2013 and April 2014, 48,000 snow sports fans in 55 selected, leading ski resorts took part in the survey. The main points covered by the survey were 21 criteria of satisfaction, ranging from the size of the skiing area, via the quality of the ski pistes, to the ambience of the locality. In 8 of the 21 criteria of satisfaction, the Zermatt ski resort gained top marks.

Matterhorn ski paradise won the Best Ski Resort award for the first time. At the awards ceremony, director of Zermatt Tourism Daniel Luggen responded enthusiastically: “As representatives of the ski area and the Zermatt-Matterhorn resort, it is an honour and a privilege for us to receive this award. The honour represents confirmation from the visitors how much they appreciate our ongoing programme of investments in quality of service and the constant expansion of the tourist services.”
