The Zermatt Skiguide app helps users orient themselves in the international ski region Matterhorn ski paradise using GPS and navigate from point A to point B on a geo-referenced 3D map. For example, the intuitive route finder shows the user how to go from any location in the ski area to his or her favourite mountain restaurant and how much time that would require taking the current opened lifts and pistes while considering the entered skiing style. “So that users do not lose their way in 3D space, a Rail-Snap System was developed for the app. This makes it possible to work through the map with a single finger, which is a huge functionality advantage under the often very low temperatures in the Zermatt/Cervinia ski region,” said Sandra Stockinger, Head of Market and Sales for the Zermatt Bergbahnen. The entire contents on the map, such as lifts and tramways, pistes, restaurants and points of interest are interactively designed and provide a live status in addition to detailed information.
The app has also some more features. For example, a mountain restaurant guide, tour suggestions, an online ticketing possibility and a personal altitude diagram in metres. Webcams and weather forecast, avalanche danger information, and warning advisories for the safety of snow sports enthusiasts are further features of the Zermatt Skiguide app. This free app is available for iOS and Android devices.
