Bonfire, Salesforce and COVID-19. Developments in technology and society present us with new challenges, but also open up new opportunities. Gilberto Picareta, Senior Account Executive at the US tech giant Salesforce, gives an insight into the latest developments surrounding digital tools in tourism and how their role might change in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. In his role, he creates added value for customers by providing the latest technology to resolve complex business issues. His passion for new technology and his background in commerce have helped many Swiss companies to carve a smooth digital transformation path.
Afterwards, Eugenie Weissheim, Senior Solution Engineer, public speaker and AI Ambassador at Salesforce, will explain why artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important. In her role, she listens to complex customer challenges, creates bespoke solutions and generates added value using artificial intelligence. In her presentation, Eugenie Weissheim will explain what artificial intelligence actually means, when a statement by a computer is more reliable than the intuition of an experienced person, and what the significance is of AI’s exciting fields of application.
15:00 – 17:15 hrs - Creating customer experience – how can we make tourism more digital?
The “Tell” format will be implemented in partnership with cimark and the canton of Valais. Building on the keynote from Gilberto Picarta, Senior Account Executive at Salesforce, the following three questions will be discussed with participants:
1. How can we enhance people's digital mindset?
2. What does an optimal digital customer journey look like from the guest's perspective?
3. How can we show guests the benefit of digital tools?
The world café method will be used to discuss these questions constructively, enabling the moderator to summarize the answers at the end. An online workshop tool will enable people to form groups that can then discuss the questions put forward. As the event is taking place online, participants are asked to observe online etiquette during the workshop.

The history of work shows how it has developed, from nomadic times, to working at home, through to working in offices. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digitalisation in public institutions and companies. One direct consequence of this is the increasingly available option of working remotely. Digital technology is enabling work to move back along the historic timeline, from offices back to remote working.
This project, supported by Innotour, seeks to structure the next phase. In other words - promote “working from anywhere” and innovation in tourism, and integrate remote working into Swiss hotels and tourism destinations. As part of this, Hotel Mama Zermatt and Hotel des Vignes in Sion are working with the Valais start-up PuraWorka to develop innovative co-working and co-living spaces.
