Zermatt Open-Air Theatre: Romeo and Juliet at Gornergrat

In the summer of 2017, a drama will be played out at the foot of the Matterhorn. The Zermatt Open-Air Theatre presents “Romeo and Juliet on Gornergrat”, a highly emotional theatrical performance at Riffelberg.

This work was written by the playwright and director Livia Anne Richard. She found inspiration for her work in Gottfried Keller’s “Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe”. Richard was previously very successful with her play “The Matterhorn Story” at Riffelberg on Gornergrat in 2015.

In this new work “Romeo and Juliet at Gornergrat” the audience is transported back to the past world of the Zermatt farming families. Center stage: the childhood friendship and later great love of two farm children from hostile families. The great human topics of love and hate, fear and envy in a touching story performed within view of the Matterhorn are not soon forgotten.

The two leading actors, Romaine Müller and David Taugwalder, both grew up in Zermatt and are already known from their appearances in The Matterhorn Story.

Performances: 6 July to 27 August 2017.
