The unique Hotel Post in the centre of Zermatt opened in 1875. In the baulk of the restaurant “The Factory” is engraved the construction year 1772. This means the house was built early and later on was changed into a hotel. It is located on the Bahnhofstrasse, and many regular guests have beautiful as well as wild tales to tell about this legendary location. Many VIPs stayed and celebrated the nights in this location full of history and full of stories. In the year 1889 the alpinist and later pope doctor Achille Ratti, so called Pope Pius XI, slept in the hotel. Again and again the hotel houses personalities and celebrities of the scenes of music, art and the economics. As real faithful Zermatt ambassadors acted John Lord of Deep Purple an Frida of Abba. For many years they were regular guests of the hotel Post until they decided to buy a own home in Zermatt.
A Whole World of Experience
In the legendary Pink Live Music Bar perform regularly big stars of the international music scene. In the eighties and nineties rock giants like David Gillmore of Pink Floyd, Roger Taylor of Queen or John Lord of Deep Purple blazed the stage. The Pink is also an important location of the famous Zermatt Unplugged Music Festival. The Broken Club has an iconic status in the Swiss music scene. Since more than 56 years people party keenly. Still it is important to know: who never danced on the legendary barrel in the Broken Club has never been to Zermatt. The Loft Club above attracts mainly a young at heart public who loves to dance to up-to-date hits and music of the eighties and nineties.
In the Pöstli, as Zermatt natives lovely call the four-star superieur hotel, it is not only possible to just dance. In the Papa Caesar’s Lounge, an evening can begin very dignified at the bar, which is lavishly and elegantly furnished. The people-watching hotspot in Zermatt is the balcony in Papa Caesar’s, because here it means: looking down on the street from above but not being seen – looking and watching incognito.
The culinary diversity of the house attracts regular guests. In “The Factory” pizza, pasta and fine seasonal specialties are served. In winter 2015 opened the new Pöstli Stübli which offers Swiss specialties. And in the restaurant P.O.S.T (former Portofino) wine by the glass and creative and international fashion food are available. In the Brown Cow Pub, which seems to be the living room of the Zermatt natives and guests sit together on the barstools and celebrate TV football or major exciting events in the world of sports on the screen.
Simply: three restaurants, a pub and four clubs/bars offer guests some tough choices. And many might already have heard that where the Zermatt Bahnhofstrasse narrows is called the Bermuda Triangle. Because that is where guests disappear for many long hours. They have definitely fallen into the depths of nightlife in the village.
The Great History of the Host Family
Today, Martin and Daniela Perren are the fifth generation to run the Pöstli. The Hotel Post is ranked 17th among the 222 best-designed hotels in Switzerland.
