Perskindol Swiss Epic: A Major Event for Cyclists


On 12 September 2016, the Perskindol Swiss Epic starts in Zermatt. This is a six-day mountain bike stage race along the finest trails in Canton Valais. The Zermatt-Matterhorn destination once again proves that it is one of the most attractive destinations in the Alps for bike riding.

From 12 to 17 September 2016, the mountain bike riders will cover 360 km and overcome 12,500 m. A strong field of participants with over 200 teams, amateurs and professionals, including the current and former world champion Nino Schurter: The Perskindol Swiss Epic, which in 2016 takes place for the third time, enjoys a very good reputation including among professionals.

Unterrothorn: The Highest Point of the Perskindol Swiss Epic

From 11 to 13 September, the athletes will stay in Zermatt, which for the first time is host destination for the start. The starting shot is on Monday, 12 September, with a time-trial from Unterrothorn (Prologue), at 3,098 m the highest point of the entire race. On this first stage, the teams cover 26 km and overcome 1,490 m of altitude via Tufterechumme, Patrullarve, over the Oberen Höhenweg to Schweigmatten, then the new Moos Trail and on to Blatten. The teams are expected in the village at Obere Matten between 11:30 am and 5 pm.

Downhill into the Rhone Valley

On Tuesday, 13 September, at 8 am, the riders set off from Obere Matten in the direction of Leukerbad and take a little detour via Furi, Zmutt and the Yoyo Trail (Herbrigg).
