Matterhorn Ultraks – a new race

19/12/2018

The Matterhorn Ultraks is now part of the exclusive Supersky Races thanks to its new Extreme Race.

The Matterhorn Ultraks mountain races have taken place every year in Zermatt since 2013 and offer a new category for 2019 – the Extreme Race. The new course profile has significant ascent, high altitude and technically challenging terrain. It was developed for runners with mountain experience, as 25 per cent of the race is above 3,000 metres. This makes the Extreme Race one of four Supersky Races in the 2019 Migu Skyrunner World Series. The Matterhorn Ultraks will therefore attract the attention of the world’s best trail runners. Its Supersky status means that participants who finish the race in Zermatt will receive twice as many points, enabling them to climb up the overall rankings.

Lots of races to choose from

As in previous years, the program includes many different races. The Matterhorn Ultraks offers four routes, all taking place on Saturday 24 August 2019. For runners looking for a short, intensive race, there is the Vertical Race on Friday 23 August 2019. The 2.3 km course between Zermatt and Sunnegga is a real challenge. The winner in 2018 was Zermatt local Andreas Steindl, who holds two Matterhorn speed records. The Matterhorn Ultraks also offers several races for children. Two routes for different ages take children through the centre of Zermatt.
