Zurich-Zermatt end of August 2020

Following on from the success of its inaugural event, Zurich–Zermatt will also take place in 2020 and 2021. The event is being brought forward by a month but will still take place in conjunction with the Traillove Mountain Bike Festival.

Five hundred participants took part in the inaugural event on 19 September 2019. They will need to put a new date in their diaries for the next two years. “We are going to stage Zurich–Zermatt a month earlier, on 28 August,” says Olympic champion Fabian Cancellara. “Hopefully this will guarantee better weather.” In 2020, Zurich–Zermatt will once again take place at the same time as the Traillove Mountain Bike Festival as the perfect way to round off a weekend all about bikes.

There will be a few other changes, too, as well as the date. Participants will be able to leave food and clothing at different points along the route, enabling them to complete the whole route without the need for an accompanying vehicle or assistants. “We are going to tweak the route through Zurich to make it slightly easier for competitors to navigate,” says project manager Kilian Pfyffer. Next year, the race will start at Restaurant CUBE in Albisrieden.
