Zermatt is opening a pop-up Stübli restaurant in Bern

25/10/2018

From 25 October to 12 January, Zermatt will have a pop-up Stübli restaurant in the federal capital, on the terrace of the Globus store in Bern. As part of the launch, there was a presentation on Wednesday of all the latest news and activities over the coming winter.

The Matterhorn village will briefly be that bit nearer. From 25 October to 12 January, Zermatt will bring winter to the federal capital, with a presence in the Globus store on Spitalgasse in Bern. In a fairy-tale wintery Zermatt chalet on the Globus terrace, visitors can taste some delicious Valais specialities, a Zermatt fondue or a wine from the Weindorf Salgesch vineyard.

As part of the launch, Daniel Luggen, Director of Zermatt – Matterhorn, and Sandra Stockinger, Marketing Director of Zermatt Bergbahnen, presented the latest news from the tourism destination for the coming winter. At the top of the list was the new Matterhorn glacier ride cable car, which was officially opened three weeks ago and will be in operation very soon. The cable car increases the transportation capacity on the Klein Matterhorn to 2,000 passengers per hour, with its design and special features promising an unforgettable ride.

The news included the new Winter Opening Weeks (WOW), which will run from 24 November to 7 December, heralding the start of the ski season in Zermatt. "It has always been difficult to promote the start of the season here, because our ski resort is the only one in the world that is open all year round. The WOW are launching the start of winter in Zermatt, not the ski resort itself, but will still encourage visitors to come to our ski slopes," says Daniel Luggen.

Zermatt will host a full programme of events throughout the two weeks, from warm-ups in the morning on the slopes to cool-downs in the evening as part of après-ski. The WOW also include a competition, with the prize of a perfect skiing week in Zermatt, with everything you need. How does the competition work? During the WOW, there are wooden hashtags on the move around Zermatt, to be found wherever there’s something going on. The best selfie with a hashtag wins.

Zermatt – Matterhorn is starting the countdown to the WOW with the SNOWember Calendar, a sort of advent calendar on zermatt.ch. Every day from 1 November, there will be a short story about winter in Zermatt and a puzzle to be solved to win prizes.
