280 kilometres and around 6,500 metres of altitude were covered by the 400 racing cyclists on 27 August 2021. From beginners to semi-professionals – the route ending in Zermatt once again offered the unique opportunity to compete with former professional cyclist Fabian Cancellara.

The Zurich–Zermatt stage, which was part of the international race series "Chasing Cancellara", took place for the third time and has established itself as a popular event among cyclists from all over Europe. The Destination Zermatt – Matterhorn and Sette Sports, who own "Chasing Cancellara", have decided to extend the contract for a further three years.

Fabian Cancellara is delighted to be given the most challenging stage of the race series. "Zurich–Zermatt is something very special. Travelling right across Switzerland – over epic Alpine passes like the Glaubenbielen or the Grimsel, is a highlight every year. I am extremely pleased that we can continue to be guests in one of the most beautiful mountain destinations in Switzerland every year," says the two-time Olympic champion. Daniel Luggen, Zermatt's Director of Tourism, is also thrilled that the collaboration has been extended: "It is always a delight to welcome the race participants to the finish line in Zermatt every year after a tough race and thousands of metres of climbing. For our destination, the race is already firmly anchored in the event calendar. It's great that Zurich–Zermatt stage will continue into the future."
