Jürgen Marx is the new manager of “Riffelhaus 1853”, which sits at 2,600 metres above sea level on the Riffelberg surrounded by Zermatt’s mountains. Born in Karlsruhe, he succeeds Katrin Nägeli-Lüthi, who has been managing the 4-star hotel since summer 2018. The 54-year old trained chef has been the director of Hotel Schweizerhof in Zermatt for the last 3.5 years, where he oversaw the successful rebranding and re-opening.
Jürgen Marx will be supported by Alain Kuster. Born in Elsace, he spent most of his career in Hotel Le Mirabeau in Zermatt and is the most experienced head chef in the Matterhorn village. In 1993, he was the youngest head chef in Switzerland and had 16 Gault Millau points. He kept these points for 26 years until the Mirabeau restaurant underwent a concept change in 2017.
Alain Kuster and Jürgen Marx will start their first season in the four-star Hotel Riffelhaus – part of Matterhorn Group AG – on 11 December 2020.
