Advance ticket sales for MATTERHORN: NO LADIES PLEASE!

15/11/2018

Advance tickets for the première of Livia Anne Richard's play MATTERHORN: NO LADIES PLEASE! are now on sale. Zermatt open-air theatre’s third production has its opening night on 11 July 2019 on the Riffelberg above Zermatt. Live musical accompaniment will be provided by the internationally renowned Alpine horn player, Eliana Burki.

The Zermatt Open-Air Theatre 2019 is all about women: three different stories about exceptional women, woven together into the new play MATTERHORN: NO LADIES PLEASE! by Bernese director and writer Livia Anne Richard.

One of these women is Lucy Walker (played by Corinne Thalman), who was the first women in the world to climb the Matterhorn in 1871 but faced intense opposition from society. There's also Tina Müller, a young woman from Zermatt whose journey in life seemed to have been decided for her because she was "just a woman". Alpine horn player Eliana Burki represents another woman caught up in the battle of the sexes. It’s a gripping story focusing on three women that also casts a knowing spotlight on a current issue – how much progress has been made towards equality and what we can learn from the past?

Multiple languages and audio guides

The play has an English-speaking protagonist and, just like "The Matterhorn Story" in 2015, features several languages, including Valais German, English and High German. This is intended to reflect the play’s local and international audiences. The play will also be translated via audio guides for French-speaking visitors.
