After a visit to the App Store, the search for botanic treasures in Zermatt can begin. Feldbotanik.ch and Pro Natura Aargau developed the Flower Walks app. A hiking guide with a plant identification book resulted. Forty-two excursions in Switzerland are presented, two of which are in Zermatt for the Rothorn and Schwarzsee areas. This is an adventure for the entire family. The Zermatt Bergbahnen AG (cableways Zermatt) is the local route path partner for this new app.
Illustrated and in two languages
If one reads the Zermatt chapter on the “Flower Splendour at the Foot of the Matterhorn” for example, one comes across some very rare plants: rush leafed sedge (Carex maritima) or Valais anthyllis (Anthyllis vulneraria subsp. Valsiaca) and much more. For these and much more, there are “rambling facts” such as the length of the path (10 km in this case), hiking time (2:40 h), altitude, time of year (from June to September) along with food tips, elevation profile, map view with location buttons, which one can press for the correct plants. The description is very detailed, easily understood and with an overview. And one does not really need to figure out the Latin names to enjoy it.
