The Hotel National has designed six new family rooms as part of a recent renovation. The 4-star-superior hotel has created a new concept, where children stay together with their parents in one room but still have their own space. The new rooms are based on two floors: an upper floor with beds for the children and a lower one where the parents sleep, with both storeys open plan. A play net for the children separates the two floors. Hotel owners Line Février and Sebastian Metry said: “Families are an important customer group at the National. We consider it essential that the children are integrated into the whole family experience and are not locked away in a separate room.” The couple took over the hotel business in 2016.

Other developments

The spa area has also been renovated, creating a new paddling pool for children in addition to the wellness facilities for adults. The same concept has been adopted in the family-friendly restaurant area, which now incorporates a play room with a variety of toys for the children close to the parents’ dining space. All the rooms in the Hotel National are south facing and guests in 41 of the 54 rooms are also promised a direct view of the Matterhorn. The hotel is just 60 meters away from the Zermatt-Sunnegga funicular.

Long-term rebuilding project

This year's renovation is part of a five-year business plan, which includes clear positioning with finance and renovation plans. The conversion work, costing a total of CHF 5 million, was completed in conjunction with the Valaisan architects Christophe Corthay and Rebecca Luisier, who created the interior design.
