The mix of acoustic music, lifestyle and enjoyment amidst the impressive mountain landscape make Zermatt Unplugged a unique music festival with an international aura. The five-day festival is an overall experience and has been attracting a musically-inclined audience to the Swiss mountains for over 11 years. In 2018 around 30,000 visitors attended Zermatt Unplugged. World stars in an intimate setting, pared to musical essence, newcomers with great potential, and hip DJs: this is the musical promise.
First acts are set
A pop-poet from Germany, a exceptional Swiss artist, a world-famous street musician, a French chansonnier, a top-class British artist or a rapper from Hamburg: The first acts set for Zermatt Unplugged 2019 could hardly be more diverse. A man, a guitar: The British musician Passenger will move the audience of the Marquee stage to tears on the first day of the festival with his beautiful songs and subtle way of sharing them. In the midst of her first purely electronically produced album, the exceptional Swiss artist Sophie Hunger commits to the acoustic festival on the same evening. This gig will be full of surprises: Will she perform her new songs acoustically? Which musicians accompany her? Is she on stage solo or with guests? With Francis Cabrel, one of the greatest chansonniers shaping the French music scene for over 40 years, Zermatt Unplugged continues the tradition of regularly presenting outstanding French musicians on Wednesday, the second day of the festival. Also from a neighboring country of Switzerland comes the incredibly nice guy and refreshingly funny entertainer who performs on Thursday in "The Alex": It is the German pop-poet Johannes Oerding, who was already in the position of delighting the Zermatt audience three years ago.
The concerts on Sunnegga are especially intimate and exclusive. One that fits in perfectly with this setting is Roo Panes, who will perform at the Sunnegga Session on Friday. On Saturday, the last day of the festival, a musical firework will be lit again. On the Marquee stage, Jessie J is one of the most successful contemporary British musicians. Last year, the BRIT Award winner was the first artist from the West to be chosen by over a billion people as the winner of the most popular singing competition in Asia. Also counting on a huge community of fans is the man who will ensure the closing of the festival in "The Alex". Samy Deluxe arrives in Zermatt with his latest work, SaMTV Unplugged, and his acoustic crew, and brings first class punchlines and tongue-twisters.
Further acts of Zermatt Unplugged 2019 will be announced in December 2018.
Unplugged Pass will be upgraded
The Unplugged Pass, which was introduced at the last edition of the festival, will be upgraded in 2019 with additional stages and locations within Taste Village and in the village. With the pass, which is valid for all five festival days and costs CHF 60, visitors receive access to all secondary stages, concerts in the Vernissage, to the festival area with Taste Village and the Foyer Marquee as well as to all parties after shows. "With the Unplugged Pass, more than 15 concerts and parties can be visited every day for 5 days. It forms a basis making for a great festival experience," explains Rolf Furrer, Managing Director of Zermatt Unplugged. For the main concerts in the Marquee, at The Alex, at the Sunnegga Sessions, and in the Winkelmatten Chapel, visitors need to book separate tickets (not included with Unplugged Pass).
