Current situation Zermatt - Matterhorn


Below you will find an overview of the current situation in Zermatt:

Road conditions
Arrival by car/coach: The Visp-Täsch or Visp-Zermatt road (for persons with a corresponding permit) is open without restriction. Due to repair work, the Täsch-Zermatt road is closed to all traffic as follows:

  • Monday, July 8, 2024 to Saturday, July 13, 2024 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Monday, July 15, 2024 to Saturday, July 20, 2024 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Monday, July 22, 2024 to Saturday, July 27, 2024 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Monday, July 29, 2024 to Saturday, August 3, 2024 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Arrival by public transport: On the Visp-Täsch route, a replacement bus will run instead of the train due to the natural disasters. The regular shuttle train runs from Täsch to Zermatt. Public transport runs according to the timetable.

Hiking trails
Due to the current snow conditions, some hiking trails at higher altitudes are closed. Some routes have been affected by the natural phenomena. The Zermatt – Edelweiss – Trift trail remains closed until further notice, but there is an alternative ascent option. The entire length of the Riffelberg bike flow trail will also remain closed until further notice. Please find out in advance whether the planned routes are passable:

The green line (Bergbahnen) runs according to the timetable. The red line (Winkelmatten) runs as a circular route between Haus Kumme, Staldenstrasse, Kapelle and Schluhmattstrasse until further notice.
