Matterhorn Glacier Ride

The highest 3S cable car in the world, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride, transports you up to the Klein Matterhorn using state-of-the-art technology, innovative design and first-class comfort.

Visitors can travel up to Europe’s highest mountain station using the ‘Matterhorn Glacier Ride’ 3S cable car. This stylish 3S cable car, the highest  in the world, links the Trockener Steg station with the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise situated at 3,821 metres above sea level, combining the latest technology and innovative design. Up to 2,000 passengers an hour can be carried in the 25 comfortable cabins, each with 28 seats. Guests enjoy a nine-minute journey in first-class comfort and with a fantastic panoramic view of the magical, alpine Zermatt world.

Pininfarina design

The cabin’s interior comes from the Italian design firm, Pininfarina, known around the world for its designs for Maserati and Ferrari. Comfortable seats and huge panoramic windows create an amazing ride up to the Klein Matterhorn.

Crystal Ride

Four of the cabins have added glamour, studded with thousands of Swarovski crystals. These cabins, known as the ‘Crystal Ride’, are a special attraction of the Matterhorn Glacier Ride. During the journey, the Crystal Ride cabins reveal something truly amazing: three minutes into the ride, 170 metres into the air, the opaque glass floors clear in seconds, showing a spectacular view of the glacier landscape. This is made possible by using laminated glass that turns from milky-white to translucent when an electric current is passed through it.

Photovoltaic systems

The Matterhorn Glacier Ride valley and mountain stations both use clean electricity. Photovoltaic panels are fitted to the outside, providing 252,000 kwH of electricity, equal to the energy requirements of about 62 households.
