Is there anything more Swiss than the Matterhorn? Is there anywhere more dedicated to the cultivation and expression of fine dining than Zermatt?
These are the questions that motivated Kevin Kunz to create his very own food festival. Drawing inspiration from successful culinary events in Gstaad, Lucerne and St. Moritz, he developed his own unique homage to gourmet culture. The inaugural Swiss Food Festival was held in 2011 with the support of award-winning Gault Millau restaurants.
Today the festival is a permanent fixture on Zermatt’s event calendar and hosts various events from April to August.
As the last rays of sun illuminate Zermatt’s majestic mountain peaks, cable car passengers can enjoy an exquisite cheese fondue as they glide past the Matterhorn. This traditional dish is perfectly complemented by crisp, refreshing wines from the Valais region, a variety of entrées and desserts, as well as a locally distilled digestif.
Guests are treated to a sumptuous breakfast as they enjoy the 70-minute return journey from Zermatt to Trockener Steg aboard a cable car. Throughout the meal, the breath-taking panoramic view of the Matterhorn slowly evolves and new culinary delights are served at each stop along the way. It’s an unforgettable start to the day.
The Kitchen Party gives Zermatt’s top chefs a chance to showcase their world-class expertise in front of a live audience. Guests watch in awe as the chefs prepare seasonal and regional dishes at a variety of different cooking stations. The gourmet creations are then served together with outstanding wines from Valais.
