Every year, the Zermatt – Matterhorn destination welcomes the one-day Chasing Cancellara race to Zermatt. Over 400 men and women set off on a 290-kilometre route from Zurich to Zermatt. Two-time Olympic champion Fabian Cancellara is part of this challenge and the attraction for many participants, as they try to overtake the top athlete en route or beat his time.
Starting at the Prime Tower in Zurich, the racers head via Buchenegg and Freiamt to the Sursee region, before tackling the Glaubenbielen and Brünig passes via Entlebuch. The Grimsel Pass – the ascent of kings – then takes cyclists into Valais, where the chasers make their way towards Zermatt. The finish in Zermatt is scheduled between 11 am and 7 pm, with a supporting programme at Obere Matten. Racers and members of the public will have the opportunity to meet Fabian Cancellara and snap a souvenir selfie.
Participants can register from mid-November via www.chasingcancellara.com/.
