Incidentally: 90 % of the area consists of nature reserves of international and national importance. Hikers who prefer alpine routes can make use of the ridge trails: There are five valleys around Zermatt with more than 70 trails, including the Tour Matterhorn and the celebrated Tour Monte Rosa. 15 mountain cabins invite you to step inside. The Europaweg on a ridge trail along the Nikolaital valley is a part of the Tour Monte Rosa.
