Milestone: Zermatt Unplugged wins tourism award
On 11 November 2014, the Zermatt Unplugged musical festival received the sought-after Milestone tourism award (third place).
Zermatt Unplugged – five days of music in the middle of April, over 50 concerts on 13 stages throughout the village and the surrounding region and around 26,000 visitors. Most of the concerts are free and the village and mountain stages give newcomers a chance to show their talent. In many cases, the careers of artists who “were there” take off a few weeks after the event.
The unique combination of acoustic music with a breath-taking mountain backdrop, magnificent spring snow and an exceptional atmosphere ensure that the festival is an event unrivalled anywhere in Europe. As a flagship of the Zermatt destination, the festival offers exclusive concerts and events with a national and international appeal and communication (media value: CHF 2.3 million).
The laudation for the Milestone (3rd place) award was held by Heinz Julen, Zermatt artist and co-founder of Zermatt Unplugged. He emphasised that the festival would not be possible without the generous support of numerous service providers in Zermatt.
