A „Milestone" Reaches Zermatt
For the festivities surrounding the 150 Years First Ascent of the Matterhorn, the Zermatt-Matterhorn destination was awarded the most sought-after tourism prize in Switzerland on 3 November 2015.
The prize is a distinction for an entire village, an entire destination. „What began more like an uphill climb over time became a formative experience extending beyond the jubilee year," said the village mayor Christoph Bürgin at the award ceremony. Tourism director Daniel Luggen is already looking into the future: „We wanted a sustainable festival year. We will continue to hold and develop the projects, which we will also keep with us in the future." Among these are the very successful open-air theater performances, which drew thousands of enthusiastic spectators to the Riffelberg and a glimpse of the Matterhorn as they watched The Matterhorn Story during the summer. This should continue – negotiations are underway.
Laudation by Linda Fäh
Linda Fäh, the well-known Swiss model who is today a singer, gave the Laudation. After a year of training, she herself reached the summit of the Matterhorn (4,478 m). The jury underscored the fact that the region had used momentum and formed internal, capable rope teams to lastingly strengthen the tourism offerings through the well-staged projects.
