Zermatt inspires enjoyment and experiences

What’s new for Zermatt guests this winter? Because the Matterhorn is by no means all we have to offer. There’ll be experiences in new swimming pools, new restaurants, picnics and wonderful terraces to get to know. An overview.

A trend is emerging for the 2011/12 winter season in the Matterhorn village. One with top creative and resourceful potential, giving guests new areas of discovery and innovative enjoyment. The culinary launch will be given by the Restaurant Heimberg, which has newly engaged chef Christian Geisler. Steps in his career include positions at Ikarus - Hangar 7 in Salzburg and the Mesa in Zurich. Restaurant Heimberg opens for the season on 20.10.2011. Another fanfare for Restaurant Heimberg: at the beginning of 2012, the Alpine Dining Temple will hold a Wine & Dine event with Europe’s top sommelier, Paolo Basso. Watch out for information on the events calendar at

The irresistible way to savour the winter
As a shooting star on the 4*-hotel scene, the Europe Hotel & Spa has a great offer not only reserved for hotel guests. The Julen family will pack a sledge with a fondue picnic for you, for an unforgettable winter walk.

Fusion Food & TV Sport
In 2011, Vaughan & Co. brought a totally new taste to Zermatt with The Pipe and so continued its success story. Fusion Food are the magic words: delis, gourmet sandwiches, burgers, wraps, not to forget the Fusion Curries to take out, show a new trend towards lifestyle awareness.

And there’s more: From 1 December, it will be quiet clear where future sport-conscious guests will eat without missing a match: Time Out, Sportsbar & Grill at Brantschenhaus 18 features the unusual concept of linking live sport on TV, games and food in an uncomplicated fashion.

Bold businesses welcome non-resident guests
The 4*-Hotel Berghof has been given a major extension and also opened most of the hotel areas to non-resident guests: a newly extended, large indoor swimming pool and wellness zone; a spacious terrace with views of the Matterhorn and an open-air bar with service; a lounge with billiard table, cafébar and wine cellar. And what’s more, a new à la carte restaurant in rustic stone-pine design. Hotel guests will also be pleased to see a smokers lounge with leather armchairs.

Non-residents are also welcome at the Backstage Hotel & Vernissage: you can enjoy a drink, a light breakfast, an afternoon snack or simply take time to relax at the Café du Théâtre, open 10:00-22:00 h. The themed wellness zone on the history of creation is also open to non-residents.

Investments in nice-price segment
Le Petit Hotel is a member of Swiss Budget Hotels, which combine tradition with simple comfort. The Le Petit Hotel was extensively renovated in 2011. Guests benefit from modern bathrooms and rooms at “old” rates.

Täsch is also upgrading: The Monte Rosa Aparthotel is presenting itself as a new oasis of rest & relaxation, with 122 holiday apartments classified in the 2-3* Superior category. Hotel rooms in Alpine style with half board are also on offer in addition to apartment rental. And with its new family-friendly philosophy, the holiday complex is ideally equipped for younger guests. The hotel is located in the middle of the Matterhorn cross-country ski run and guests benefit from special terms. The complex even has its own railway station in winter.

Zermatt events are inspiring
... namely hoteliers who make use of the communication and publicity work carried out for cultural and sporting events for their own purposes, and also provide the event with a great service. The hotelier gets in touch with his regular customers via his in-house channels. Avant-garde this winter are once again Franz and Fabienne Götzenberger from the Bellavista, who have a soft spot for ski alpinists: they have a height-training package on offer for participants in the Patrouille des Glaciers (PDG).

Late night entertainment
The Papperla Pub is still a hot spot in the late-night entertainment scene. Although totally renovated, the locale has retained its unmistakable Irish pub style. It will still offer après ski with live music – and not just from spring. International bands will take the stage from 22.00 h, from Christmas to Easter.

Zermatt in spring and music mood
Zermatt Unplugged, the festival of acoustic music, leads the way: good music in an exclusive setting is becoming increasingly appreciated. And it will be all go in Zermatt from 17 to 21 April 2012.
