Zermatt: A wealth of new things from the restaurants and hotels this winter

Zermatt – the resort is synonymous with hiking, winter sports, excellent cuisine and sound sleep. Many businesses again have been investing this year in a wealth of new opportunities to ensure that things stay that way. They have created new experiences and areas so that guests have a great time and feel really at home in Zermatt.

Zermatt is the top holiday destination in the Alps with 18 restaurants awarded points by the most popular Swiss restaurant guide, the Gault Millau. Eight of the 100 award-winning Gault Millau Gourmet Hotels are also located in Zermatt. Pure indulgence!

News from the World of Haute Cuisine
A new migratory bird overwinters in Zermatt – Ivo Adam (15 points GaultMillau) from the Seven Group of Ascona. He will spoil the guests from December 2012 until April 2013 with his gourmet team of the Seven Group in the restaurant “After Seven” of the Hotel Backstage. Another artist is also ruling over the stove in the luxury Zermatt Peak chalet: Philippe Berthoud (17 Gault Millau points). The Old Zermatt Restaurant now belongs to the Hotel Couronne and will undergo a facelift at the start of December 2012. From a gastronomic standpoint, it will be saluting our Mediterranean neighbours. The "kitchen around" gourmet experience moves into its second round this winter with three restaurants per round, on foot and by electric taxi. The Schwarzsee Restaurant (2,583 m) offers live music every day with a magnificent view over the Matterhorn. The Adler Hitta in Findeln (2,220 m) is now welcoming guests with a large terrace and a mountain lodge ambience in the interior. The Hotel Silvana offers cosy "lodge evenings" in its rustic Gitz-Gädi. The Time Out Sportsbar & Grill is home to all sports fans who want to share in the thrills of all the major sporting events on all continents in a lively atmosphere. Chez Vrony, the mountain lodge with Gault Millau points, has been extended and now has a room with 40 places dominated by wood from Zermatt stone pines.

Beat the drums at the five-star Mont Cervin Palace hotel. The hotel will re-open on 12th December 2012 after an eight month-long construction period. The hotel façade now radiates with new lighting projections, the lobby has been redesigned and new suites and rooms await the illustrious guests. The Hotel Alex has big surprises for the sporty guests: Completely renovated are the tennis court, the sqash court, the fitness centre and the skiroom. During the renovation, the criterions of renovation in sustainability are severely considered, e.g. in the laundry. In the Grandhotel Zermatterhof have been installed new suites, and here too, a number of rooms are renovated. The Parkhotel Beau-Site continues to attach value to sustainability by using geothermal heat in its building services, as well as in the health and spa zone. The Hotel Bellerive now has a sunny winter garden with lounge, the front of the hotel, several rooms and suites are renovated. The Mountain Boutique Resort Hotel Cervo continues to pamper its guests with its distinctive hunting lodge charm with two spa suites in a new chalet. The Alex Schlosshotel has been extended with spacious apartments, luxury suites and bedrooms. The Hotel Firefly is now pampering guests with spacious new suites in a chic Alpine style. The Hotel Holiday will surprise its guests with a new lobby and the new Restaurant la Calèche that has now opened its doors to guests. The younger generation has now taken over at the Hotel Schönegg: Sebastian Metry (29) and his sister Anna (27) are now managing the four-star superieur hotel. The apartments in the Haus Castania B and many other holiday apartment blocks have been refurbished.

Anyone looking for accommodation on Furi can now sink into the feather pillows in the new holiday apartments at the Restaurant Les Marmottes after enjoying "Roby’s Frevler dish" featuring ibex, marmot and venison from stags and roe deer.
