The Zermatt Street Festival: The Bahnhofstrasse as a gathering place

Sitting together in the comfort of Zermatt’s summer brilliance – locals and guests alike. This is on the programme several times throughout the summer in the Matterhorn village. On 10 July, 1 August (Switzerland’s national holiday), and 21 August. Festival tables and benches are set up along the Bahnhofstrasse and the selection of food and drink is rich indeed.

“Meet the locals” is the theme of these Zermatt street festivals. Guests and locals mingle in a relaxed setting and come into contact with each other along the Bahnhofstrasse. The music is great, and food stands offer local and international specialties along with beverages.

3x1 Festival Mile
The Bahnhofstrasse is the pulsing heart of Zermatt. The festivals on 10 July and 1 and 21 August are guaranteed to have a high entertainment factor. Guests, locals, families, singles all enjoy being together outdoors. And if you know a language or two, you are guaranteed to increase your fun and flirt factor.

Thursday, 11 July 2013
17 pm to 11 pm, street party on the upper Bahnhofstrasse from the Little Bar to the Whymperstube, with specialties from many of Zermatt’s restaurants, drinks and live music.
Thursday, 1 August (Swiss National Holiday)
Programme begins at 4 pm with music, speeches and a service.  7:15 pm with open end, street festival. With party tables, festive benches and food stands from the Bahnhofplatz to the Kirchplatz. Specialties from 24 Zermatt restaurants. Major fireworks display: 10 pm

Wednesday, 21 August
7 pm to 11 pm, street party on the upper Bahnhofstrasse from the Little Bar to the Whymperstube, with specialties from many of Zermatt’s restaurants, drinks and live music. Bad weather postponement date: Thursday, 22 August.
