Thanks to favourable snow conditions, the Furggsattel glacier lift will reopen on Monday, 14 October, in time for the Zermatt ski test. 2013 marks the tenth year of operations for Switzerland’s first glacier chairlift. High time it shared the limelight again.

The 12th annual general meeting of Zermatt Bergbahnen AG took place on 27 September 2013 in the ICE Restaurant on Trockener Steg. Despite the generally difficult economic environment, Chairman of the Board Hans-Peter Julen was able to present shareholders with a positive business result.

Zermatt restaurants are always mentioned in the gastronomic guides GaultMillau Switzerland and Guide Michelin. The restaurants are highly praised and regularly awarded points by these guides. For years now, Zermatt is the only Swiss village to boast the highest number of points in the popular GaultMillau gastronomic guide.

Three winter sports resorts banking on Slow Slopes. The Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund (Suva), the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (bfu) and Swiss Cableways (SBS) are promoting leisurely skiing and safety on the runs. In 2009/2010, as part of a three-year pilot study, designated “Slow Slopes” were introduced for beginners and skiers who like to take it easy.

The Solar Restaurant on the Matterhorn glacier paradise (Klein Matterhorn) has already been accoladed with the Swiss Solar prize for 2010. Today in Berlin, it also received the European award. The solar restaurant opened by Zermatt Bergbahnen AG on the south flank of the mountain for the 2008/09 winter season produces all the electricity for heating and ventilation using the photovoltaic system built into the facade.

As of this weekend, 80% of the prepared pistes at the Matterhorn ski paradise will be open. That means over 200 km of pistes for snow sport fans to indulge their passion in conditions normally found in mid-winter.
