Zermatt hoteliers have every reason to be proud. In the latest hotel rating by the Swiss business magazine Bilanz published at the end of July 2012, Zermatt once again did exceptionally well. The Hotel Coeur des Alpes was once again able to secure top position and the Backstage Hotel and Vernissage now appear in the same category.

On 20 July 2012 Zermatt will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Arben Bivouac. Back in 1977 the Royal Dutch Alpine Association (KNAV) gifted the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) a mountain hut in Zermatt – the Arben Bivouac – of which the club is very proud. At 3,224 m, it opens up the access to the most beautiful climbing routes in the Valais as well as to the Obergabelhorn, the Wellenkuppe and the Zinalrothorn. The Arben Bivouac anniversary will be celebrated with a concert.

For the eleventh time, the SonntagsZeitung (a Swiss Sunday newspaper) has rated Swiss hotels based on the quality, investment, hospitality, price/performance ratio and innovation of the hotelier. As many as eleven Zermatt hotels have been classified under the best hotels in Switzerland.

In the winter of 1965, Walter Bonatti (22.06.1930 - 13.09.2011) single-handedly climbed the North Face of the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn Museum Zermatlantis will be presenting a small exhibition about this special achievement from the 22nd June 2012 onwards.
