Piste information for spring skiing


Zermatt stands for 365 days of fun in the snow. Spring skiing in particular is very popular with sun worshippers and lovers of fine food: perfect snow conditions, longer sunny days and numerous gourmet restaurants along the pistes – the perfect combination. So what about the opening hours of the various ski areas?

Zermatt is sure to have snow also in spring. This year snow sports fans can whiz over all pistes until 21 April 2013. The valley runs from Furi/Schweigmatten down to the valley are guaranteed as long as the weather and snow conditions allow. All facilities in all areas are open until 21.4.13. From Monday, 22 April to Sunday, 5 May, the following facilities are in operation: Zermatt-Furi, Furi to Trockener Steg, Furggsattel Gletscherbahn, Gandegg and the crossing to Cervinia/Valtournenche. From Monday 6 May to the end of June one can ski continuously at the Furggsattel chairlift, and the Gravity Park is open. Matterhorn glacier paradise (Trockener Steg to the terminus at 3,880 m) is closed only from Monday 29.4. to Friday 10.5. due to maintenance work. Otherwise this facility is open throughout the year.

Funicular and Sunnegga ski area
The Sunnegga is also open until Sunday, 21 April. The funicular Sunnegga and the combined cable car Sunnegga-Blauherd (only the gondolas) as well as the arial tramway Blauherd-Rothorn continue to run until april 21st 2013 in accordance with the timetable. Due to the renovation of the Sunnegga funicular the following pistes in the Rothorn area will exceptionally be closed for restoration works from Monday, 15 April: Tufternkumme (Piste Nr. 15), Chamois (16), Marmotte (17), Arbzug (18), Tuftern (9), Ried, Riedweg (2 und 3) and Untere National (1). The Eisfluh chairlift below Sunnegga will be closed at this time. In addition one can still reach the ski area north until April 21st as well via the connection Gant-Blauherd or Breitboden respectively via Eja with the Findel cable car to Sunnegga. ((Dann wieder normal mit diesem Text weiter)) After the construction the Sunnegga funicular will be back in operation on 15 June 2013. Guests and locals can glide along new rails to Sunegga with an ultramodern funicular.
Crossing to summer ski
The ski pistes at Gornergrat and Rothorn are closed from Monday  22 April. The Matterhorn Express to Schwarzsee will not be in operation from 29 April to 15 June. Transport from Furi to Trockener Steg will be bridged during this period by the large cable car. One can ski down to Italy until 5 May 2013. After that snow sports fans can practise their curves in the spring and summer ski area on the Matterhorn glacier paradise.

Gravity Park
Snowpark enthusiasts can display their tricks until 29 June in the Gravity Park, along the Furggsattel chair lift. After that the park will be relocated up on the Rosa Plateau depending on the temperature, and is expected to be accessible again from 13 July.
