ADAC elects Zermatt as best ski resort

For the German Automobile Club, the skiing attractions of the Matterhorn ski paradise make it the absolute top ski region in the Alps and it has thus been awarded first place. The reason: the region’s numerous pistes are extremely varied and also cross national borders.

For the fourth time, the ADAC has named the top ski region in the Alps in its Ski Guide. The region includes the Matterhorn ski paradise, Gornergrat, Rothorn paradise and Breuil-Cervinia in Italy. It makes an impression with roomy, snow-safe pistes to suit different skiing skills as well as views of the Matterhorn and 37 other 4000-metre summits. The over-700-page “Ski Bible” also makes mention of tradition combined with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. “Everything is well organized and smooth – something the guest notices as soon as he arrives and, complete with ski baggage, has to board the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn shuttle train in Täsch,” writes the Ski Guide. Zermatt is a lively resort almost all year round and yet it’s still possible “to discover the charm of a Valais mountain village” in its centre. The excellent gastronomy alongside the pistes is also noted. The 2011 Ski Guide contains details of 1500 ski regions with facts and figures, tips and maps.

The German Automobile Club (Allgemeine Deutsche Automobilclub ADAC) has over 17 million members, who hold its ratings and test reports in extremely high regard.
