Swatch Skiers Cup 2014: Freeride elite in Zermatt


On this Saturday, 4 January 2014 the Swatch Skiers Cup will attract top freeriders to Zermatt for the second time. Team Americas and Team Europe will have new captains. An exciting competition.

From 4 to 10 January 2014, the two eight-man teams will compete against each other in the magnificent Zermatt mountainside. Team Americas will be headed by the Canadian top star JP Auclair, Team Europe by the Frenchman Julien Regnier who was part of last year’s race jury in Zermatt.

Competitions- Where and when?
Backcountry Slopestyle (freestyle): Tuesday, 7 January 2014, 9.30 am in the Triftji area. Spectators will have the opportunity to get close to the action in the finish area. Only good off-piste skiers can reach the finish area, which is accessible riding down the moguls from the Hohtälli mountain station.
Big Mountain Contest (Freeride): Thursday, 9 January 2014, in the Gornergrat/Hohtälli area. First rider to drop in at 10.00 am. Spectators accessing by ski: Piste Nr. 29 Gornergrat/Gifthittli. Spectators accessing without ski: Via Sunnegga-Eja to Breitboden.

Up close and personal with the freeriders
Wednesday, 8 January 2014, 8.30 – 9.00 pm, in the Vernissage Movie night with the Zermatt mountain guide and ski instructor Samuel Anthamatten. Free entry. 

Wednesday to Friday (8 - 10 January 2014), 4.00 – 7.00 pm. Bahnhofstrassse Zermatt in front of the Banque cantonale du Valais. With animation, riders autograph session, music, games. Free entry.

Official party for the Big Mountain (Freeride) race
