For the first time in Zermatt: Matterhorn Ultraks, the new skitouring races

The Matterhorn Ultraks Skitouring races are taking place for the first time on 20 April 2013. Over 900 racers have already registered for this challenging test.

Matterhorn Ultraks – these are the skitouring races for hardened skiers. 900 athletes are facing up to the premiere of this great challenge, including 200 women. There are participants from ten countries, among them many Swiss and especially contestants from the Valais. And as ambassadors for the Matterhorn Ultraks, the Zermatter Martin Anthamatten, and the world champion Laetitia Roux from France. The race director is Simon Anthamatten from Zermatt. Almost half the participants have entered the 3K race, the hardest of the three categories (see below). The majority of participants are aged between 40 and 50. The oldest racer is 72 years of age and hails from Zermatt. The Matterhorn Ultraks ‘‘Skialp“ (skitouring racing) will take place from 2013 every two years in April, alternating with the Patrouille des Glaciers.

Children aged between 8 and 15 can register free on the spot at Riffelalp.

For spectators: Cheering on the run
Spectators can cheer on the racers at the start as well as along the run. Starts are staggered from Bahnhofplatz for the categories 3K (8 am) and 2K (8.30 am).
