Moving forward: The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) is celebrating its 10th anniversary

11.01.2013

The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2013. To mark this occasion, a range of public events has been planned for the whole year. And what is more, our Valais customers can enjoy access to low-priced ski tickets until April 2013.

To mark its 10th anniversary in 2013, the MGB has come up with some very special promotions for its customers. These will be available on the 10th day of each month during 2013. The exact details of each offer will only be released shortly before they are available.
The Furka Oberalp Bahn and the BVZ Zermatt-Bahn merged in 2003 and the railway became a customer and service-oriented feeder transport for Zermatt. The GlacierExpress and other services were also integrated into the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn network. This panorama train links Davos/St. Moritz with Zermatt. The train journey takes over seven hours and is one of the absolute highlights of railway travel in Switzerland. With the MGB, visitors to Zermatt may now travel comfortably from Visp to Zermatt, the Matterhorn village where they can enjoy the car-free environment and clean air.

Low-priced access to the Zermatt ski area on Saturdays
Until 21 April 2013 families living in the Valais can enjoy access to cheaper ski tickets each Saturday. Our offer: Adults pay CHF 68 and 3 children under 16 ride free. Included: Travel from any Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn station between Oberwald and St. Niklaus to Zermatt and back, plus ski day ticket for all in the Zermatt snow sports area.
Ticket sales: At the SBB Brig and in Visp

Open days for everybody
During this anniversary year, the public will have two opportunities to peek behind the scenes at this railway company:

  • 6th April 2013: Open day at the workshop in Andermatt
  • 27th April 2013: Open day at the depots and workshops in Glisergrund near Brig.
