Grand Hotel Zermatterhof 

Timeless, elegant and steeped in the traditions of Zermatt: the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. The east wing has been completely renovated, and four large suites and a deluxe double room entirely refurbished. In two renovated chalet suites, guests will encounter a dynamic tension between the traditional alpine and the contemporary: bright spruce and fir for the ceilings and walls, dark slate for the fireplace. Kalbermatter’s Apparthotel Firefly
It is the most spectacular opening this winter. On 6 December, the Firefly – a hotel dedicated to the four elements – opened its doors. This 4-star luxury hotel, situated very close to the Matterhorn-Express valley station, is synonymous with luxury and lifestyle: an oasis of well-being in the midst of our grandiose mountain landscape. The hotel can accommodate up to 68 guests in 4.5 and 2.5 room suites measuring 30m2. The hotel's luxury flagship is the Fire Suite, with four separate bedrooms, three bathrooms and a designer kitchen with a cooking island. The 380m2 spa and fitness area has refreshing showers, a stainless steel indoor pool with coloured lighting, a “Schnappsbrenner” sauna, an aromatised steam bath cut out of granite with glass tiles, a brine steam bath and an ice grotto. Hotel Monte Rosa

This is the house belonging to the hotel pioneer Alexander Seiler and represents above all others the brilliance of British alpinism in the nineteenth century: the Hotel Monte Rosa Comprehensive remodelling was done in 2008. The sixth floor was expanded to include three luxurious 2-bedroom suites, each over 110 m2. The rooms on the fourth and fifth floors were also expanded and renovated. When you enter the hotel on the ground floor, it’s like stepping back in time. The reception is located in the former “salon bleu”. The fire crackles in the fireplace during check-in. You can then head into Edward’s café-bar and admire the remnants of the 1839 Lauberschen refuge. 

Hotel Alex: Top state-of-the-art seminar rooms 

They are called “Crystal”, “Matterhorn”, “Breithorn”, “Alphubel” and “Edelweiss”. They have room for 200, 70, 70, 50 and 20 people. The timber ceilings were manufactured in the Hotel Alex’s own carpenter's workshop. The rooms are cosy and inspiring. The restaurant has been completely renovated. An open fire sizzles in the new wine cellar, “Bodegas Bacchus”. The wine is kept cool among Dutch stones. The longest wooden table in Zermatt is down here. Hotel entrance, terrace – everything new. 

Coeur des Alpes 

The hotel offers six new lofts and a penthouse for 6 people. The lofts are up to 70 square metres in size with 4 m 40 high windows, an open bath, glass gallery and a view of the Matterhorn from the terrace. "Living Spa" emphasises the communicative side of the spa. Hamam stands for a thorough cleansing of the skin - the very latest trend in wellness. Pestemal, bingül, kese, lif, Rhassoul steam bath and Nabelstein – words that are synonymous with a truly sensual experience. Heinz Julen’s new work is set to open on 27 December 2008.

Alpine Residence Hotel Mirabeau

The whirlpool facilities at the Hotel Post, built by Lauber IWISA, were awarded first prize by the German Solar Industry in 2008. This Europe-wide award was conferred in Berlin.
The most unusual beds in Zermatt 

Nights on the Kleine Matterhorn
It is the most accessible summit in Europe: the Kleine Matterhorn in the Matterhorn glacier paradise. Conveniently located cablecar lift. A new restaurant and shop in the Minergie P standard (opening 25 December) with its own sewage treatment facility. Skiers and mountain climbers sleep in five rooms with four bunk beds and dream of the next day. Breakfast beside the glacier. Bookable from spring 2009. 

Nights in an Igloo The igloo is getting bigger: three snow houses in one. The Igloo Suite with a whirlpool, bedroom and bathroom. Sleep and sleepwalk like the Eskimos. 

A stay in Zermatt for those needing care 

The Pflege- und Altenheim St. Mauritius offers pensioners on holiday in Zermatt and their dependants beds for 120 CHF per night. The short stay can last a maximum of five weeks in a row and may not exceed ten weeks in the year. One double room with balcony and one single room. Guests may avail themselves of all the home's services. As of now, beds are booked up only for January. Contact: 027 – 966 86 46. By the way: in St. Mauritius, Mr Wiseier, the former cook at the Monte Rosa hotel, does the cooking.

Hotel Holiday 

The Hotel Holiday has completely renovated all its rooms. Its furniture is made from old pine in the Alpine style, draperies are in warm colours (red, orange, yellow). All rooms are non-smoking and come equipped with flat-screen televisions. 

Hotel Silvana
The Hotel Silvana ob Furi at 1864 m.a.s.l. is celebrating its 40th year in business. The Biner family is using the occasion to invest in a new reception and a new bar. A new lounge has also been added. The hotel is listed in the top 20 3-star hotels in Switzerland. Restaurant Gitz Gädi and spa. 

Hotel Bella Vista 

The hotel has built a new 200m2 spa facility. A saunarium with direct outside access. A steam bath, a refreshing shower, two whirlpools, a relaxation room, a beautiful view of the Matterhorn. Hydropathic treatment facilities and massage room. Alpine garden in summer. 

The future 

Hotel Phönix 

The Hotel Phönix is expected to open in summer 2009. The owner is Josef Schaller, whose family runs the hotel. The façades will be made of old pine and rubble masonry. 3-star listing. 27 double rooms with a total of 54 beds. Wheelchair-accessible throughout. The rooms facing south have a bay window. 

New Monte Rosa hut project receives awards 

The future SAC hut on the Gornergletscher, a project by ETH Zürich, has been awarded the Holcim Award Bronze Europe 2008. Projects and visions for sustainable construction are eligible for the prize. With this award, the project has qualified for the next round. Construction is scheduled to finish in the second half of 2009. The building, which will be able to accommodate up to 120 people, will produce 90% of its own energy. A milestone in high alpine construction. 

5-star superior boutique hotel “Vertical Village”
It will have 38 suites, will be located by the Sunnegga paradise valley station and will be ready in 2012. Construction will begin in 2009. Architect Matteo Thun. Management Giardino Group. A project by Andreas Driske and Mario Fuchs. Valais is trendy.
